Did you know that in India the cotton industry is responsible for 54% of all pesticides used in the country while using only 5% of the country's cultivated land? It has been reported that thousands of indians farmers are commiting suicide du mostly to the outrageous rise in the price of pesticides and genetically modified seeds, the use of wich deteriorates the quality of the soil and makes it infertile. Likely, organic farming is a concrete solution. The return to more traditional and natural ways of producing creates more rural employment and uses onfarm resources making it more cost-effective and lucrative for the farmers. M.D. K. Nair, secretary general of the confederation of India's textile industry, has stated that it is the west's demand for eco-responsible clothing that has made the production of organic cotton rise, making India the world leader of this industry. Indeed, intercultural exchange are necessary to the rebirth of ecological awareness in this newly industrialized countries. Where products band in the often passed on to missinformed farmers. When different culture come together and share their experiences, many veils are lifted.
